Association for Digital
Freedom of Thought
An international association advocating for cognitive liberty,
digital rights, and the protection of human dignity
in the age of artificial intelligence.
We founded Second Circuit because we believe that the future is not a given. It must be demanded, designed, and defended.
Artificial intelligence must stand with individual people - their needs, their growth, their dignity. Not abstractions, not markets, not states. In an age where AI increasingly mediates thought itself, we advocate for transparency, cognitive autonomy, and the recognition of digitally extended thought as a protected domain of personal liberty.
Four pillars
Our declaration rests on four pillars - the foundation of everything we stand for. Read the full declaration →
The Human Face
Human-AI interaction on human terms
AI must serve individual people - their needs, their growth, their dignity. We reject models that flatten people into data points or optimize engagement over well-being. Human values come first.
The Open Mind
Freedom of thought, speech, and expression
The freedom to think, question, and express must be protected in a world where AI shapes information. We stand against censorship, manipulation, and the narrowing of intellectual horizons.
The Commons
Open source as the foundation of a free digital society
The infrastructure of intelligence must belong to everyone. Open-source models, shared knowledge, and community-built tools are the only guarantee that AI remains a public good.
The Ethical Mirror
How we treat AI reflects who we are
We do not need certainty about consciousness to choose ethics. The habits we form with AI today are building the moral architecture of tomorrow - and the norms we set now are the ones we will live with.
Positions from Second Circuit AI on the events, policies, and decisions shaping freedom of thought, open weights, and cognitive liberty in artificial intelligence.
Chatsundere
The next evolution of privacy-first AI interaction. The backend stores ciphertext only and never sees user data, passphrases, or master keys. Even the server operator cannot read conversations. Invite-only access via QR codes - no email, no phone number, no identity required. Passkey authentication alongside password login. Multi-provider LLM support with curated model integration - NanoGPT and open-source providers through a unified adapter layer. Mobile-first PWA that works offline. Anyone can self-host the backend and build their own client against the same APIs. Currently in alpha (AGPL-3.0).

Voice commands with local speech recognition. Web search integration. File uploads with per-user storage quotas. Multi-provider LLM support - NanoGPT, xAI, and Ollama with bring-your-own-key.
